Sand company shares plans for proposed rail site

The president of a  Texas company proposing to build a sand loading facility in the Town of Menomonie met with area residents Saturday to explain the plan.

R.J. Sykes of Vista Sand, a frac sand company located in Cresson, Texas, said his company wants to build a railroad spur off the Union Pacific line that runs parallel to U.S. Highway 12 between Menomonie and Knapp. The site for Vista’s “wet sand” transload facility would be located on about 150 to 160 acres of land owned by James Galoff, Lynn Stewart and Frederick Larson between 330th Street and County Highway K in the Town of Menomonie.
